Hush, Little Sister

Hush, little sister, please don’t cry

With I could sing you a lullaby

‘Cause I see your arms all bloodied and bruised

How strange, little sister, mine were like that too

I know how you feel when Daddy’s there

Hush, little sister, I know you’re scared

I know that people walking by

Decide to look away and ignore our cries

It makes me mad, little sister, shouldn’t have to be alone

Shouldn’t be afraid of your own home

Hey, little sister, want to know why I’m not there?

It’s a sad story, but people ought to care

You see, little sister, one day when Daddy got high

(You were asleep in you crib, so you didn’t hear my cries)

He screamed at me and smashed my head against the floor

And he laughed, little sister, while my blood pooled on the floor

But hush, little sister, Daddy’s coming home

Quick, run and hide, or he’ll find you alone

Oh no, little sister, he’s taking off his belt

Run away, little sister, run and cry for help

Oh no, little sister, please search far and wide

But don’t hide there, he knows your favorite place to hide

Please, little sister, he’s coming up the stairs

Hush, little sister, and pretend you’re not there

Oh, God, no, he’s found her and as the beatings start

My sweet little sister hides her soul inside her heart

My Daddy, he hits her again and again

My poor little sister, my one and only friend

Hush, baby sister, there’s no need to cry

No one can hurt you, you’re in my arms tonight
