I believed him.
"Take me away,
So I can escape,
So I won't be convinced to stay,
Once he's awake."
"Break my chain,
Set my wings free,
Before I can feel the pain,
And no ones to blame but he,
Dont let him near me."
I scream,
I fight,
"But it isn't what it seems,"
I say once he convinces me that it's right,
What he's doing to me.
"Take me to him,"
I say,
But you go on a whim,
And take me away,
I scream,
I fight,
Until you tell me it isn't right,
What he's done to me.
"Don't leave me alone,"
I'm trapped inside,
As I did what I was shown,
And put my feelings aside,
But I should be known,
He'd come for me.
"Why me?"
My judgement is clouded,
"There was once then there was three,"
The halls are crowded,
But I can see clearly,
That he's there.
He stares me in the eye,
He walks knowing his chances are slim,
"What he told you was a lie,"
And I believed him.

The hardest bars to break; the toughest locks to shatter: are the ones we carry around in our heads. Whether they're put there by others or self-imposed, those are the cages from which we so rarely escape.
Extremely well written poem...the clipped, uneven line-lengths give it a sense of urgent desperation.
Perfectly expressed.
