I have become my own enemy

I have no room in my life for my own happiness
I cannot focus on healing old wounds when I’m dealing with new ones daily
I find myself suffocating on lies being told by soulless bodies
They cannot consume the truth and hide away from it
The more I fight for what is right the more I lose my honor
I try to stand yet realize I am losing limbs in this battle
I have no legs to stand my ground
No mouth to voice my opinion
No arms to comfort the fallen
And no heart to show love towards the ones we lost
I have been fighting this battle for over seven years
And realized I have been fighting myself…I have become my own enemy
How do you kill something that is a part of you?
How do you let go of yourself?
I am the evil in dark and hope from that the light brings.
Yet cannot separate them as they are one.

Thanks Nancy, appreciate it
It's alarming how we often become enemies of ourselves. You have capture some raw emotions in this poem. You express yourself well. I thank you for sharing.

Carmen - you sly devil, you... Surreptitiously weaving your way into my heart through your clever poems!
First of all, that picture is rather disturbing, yet I find myself unable to turn away through a morbid fascination. I had the same reaction to the poem. You don't know me, yet seem to reveal truths about me that I find myself to scared to admit to myself, even!
Very well done! Bravo!
**Note to self: Do not consume a bottle of wine before reading Carmen's poems.
