Poem -
I Just Want a Pint With Me Mates
I’ve turned the news off; it has all gone too far
It’s all lockdown and Covid rates,
All I want now, is to sit at a bar
And have a pint with me mates
 -
The pubs are closed and the staff sent home
And they don’t know what future awaits,
Too much time on my hands, as I sit here alone
I just want a pint with me mates
 -
It has been so long, it doesn’t seem fair
I’ve almost forgotten how it tastes!
Guinness or lager, I don’t really care
I just want a pint with me mates
 -
Now if this virus should take me away
And I am ushered through heavens gates,
Then please let the angels pull the pints
I’ll have one more drink with me mates.

I think just before one enters through the Pearly Gates.....there awaits a small pub with the most heavenly of Guinness Stouts and premium Lagers.....just one last toast with your mates to put some color in your cheeks just before you greet your maker!! Yes both Quran and bible say we will get lots of pints of drink in heaven so yeah. Your poem is sweet and yearning so poetically in super rhyming I enjoyed it's flow and the stanza about turning off the news yeahh great idea I should do the same. Get togethers are missed everywhere and the new normal is scary. Kudos for this fab topical muse .!!
