I LIKE DRINKING POISON

I like drinking poison:
I suppose I’m
A self- harmer
I know that it is bad for me
Yet it helps to keep me calmer.
 
The intoxicating effects kick in
Quite quickly
And sometimes I feel bad
Next day
Somewhere in this life of mine
 
Things have gone astray:
I once ended up in hospital
Where I promised that I’d stop
I admitted to what I was doing
And that day made me sob.
 
I drink poison out of bottles
It makes me want some grub.
The place I’ve always swallowed poison
I call my local pub.
