Poem -

I Met Him, I Knew Him

I Met Him, I Knew Him

Dedicated to Caleb Lucas

I met him,

He walked the halls and streets

with his thoughts and tiresome feet.

Drama that surrounded him was constantly on repeat,

fighting battles that seemed to always end in defeat.

A steady mindset wasn’t something he could keep.

He started smoking and crying himself to sleep.

A lost boy screaming for some kind of inner peace,

but his problems would just increase.

Out of the shadows his demons were released,

and his innocence and sadness was their feast.

Left with a soul that felt like it’d always be incomplete,

he was now a boy with some sort of missing piece.

I knew a boy,

I talked to him every night 'til sunrise,

and during that time we realized

the raw emotional conflict we both carried inside.

Even though we tried to mask it with pride,

We saw the war in each others eyes.

A lost boy and girl in disguise

Thinking too much all night of how to hide

away their silent cries

that were made from endless lies.

I knew a boy...

He was a such a blessing

that held an unforgettable lesson:

"You cannot love away the scars

that are not ready to part from

a damaged heart."
