I shine a light too bright

I shine a light too bright it seems, for many see fit to shield their eyes.
Those I once held in high regard, have long since ceased to realiseβ¦
That I meant nothing by such brightness, I sought not to dim their view.
I never meant to cast a shadow, the accusation is so untrue.
They claimed as if to yearn the spotlight but hid, expectations way too high.
Red carpet at their feet? An arrogance deep routed in their cry!
Resentment burning bright, I was blind to the anger building there.
I never knew my very presence, would be the route of a green eyed stare.
I, the victim of their frustrations, for being the one they wish they could be,
Yet show nothing more than harsh disdain for the one that they call me?
I shine a light too bright it seems but shield they must for I wonβt hide.
I wonβt pretend to be less than I am, to appease someone elseβs wounded pride.
For the ones I once held in high regard, you hold neither the power nor the right!
And I wonβt hide away in the shadows just because I shine a light too bright.
