I Studied him deep

I studied him deep, while he cherished half-sleep,
A misshapen grey child of confusion,
A near finished work, self-forsaken heap,
The bastard of hard times and soft resolution.
Time’s absence was clear, as essential as air,
A priceless commodity forever misjudged,
Confusion imprinting, emotions laid bare,
Clouding skill required to hold any grudge.
The past lost sense, the present intense,
A lifetime of presumption removed in a second,
Tender thoughts overwhelmed in their quick resurgence,
The heart became open but the old back-door beckoned.
My words were perplexed, they had to connect,
Immediacy entangling a vital expression,
But goodbye was just it, with a hint of respect,
Met with only a kindred suppression.
Time again showed its wrath, changing all in its path,
Save the memory of this quick occasion,
An occasion resounding an aftermath,
Of lost words with no celebration.
