I Thirst

I thirst.
Thirsty for the wine of equality and justice; Â
Hankering to see the death of discrimination.
We live, but live drowning in our own tears.Â
We live, but intoxicated by pain and grief.Â
It feels like a razor tearing into your skin.Â
It looks like a destruction caused by an outrage volcano.
We dream, dream and dreamÂ
But our dreams are drowning in a raging sea.
Our world, our land, our future in this they lie.Â
Hearts are broken.Â
Cups are filled with tears.Â
Our joy, laughter and smiles are nowhere to be found.
This sounds like an explosion of an atomic bomb,
Deafening from the terrifying sound.
Weeping from the horrifying destruction brought by humanity.
Is this how we’ll live?Â
Cries instead of laughter,
War instead of peace,
Mourning instead of dancing,
Sorrows instead of Joy.Â
This feels like you are bound in chains, over a fire, Â
Fighting with your last breath to be set free.
It tastes like a sour burning lemon.
We are living, but living with our lives overturned.Â
With this, I cannot cope.Â
It smells like a poison gas,
Thrown in a heated cage, in which you are stuck.Â
Imaging how our world would be if
We were loved for who we are,
Respected despite where we are from,
Protected despite our status,
Cherished despite our race.Â
A world like this I long to see.Â
But instead, we live in a valley of grief, pain, frustration, and sorrow
Struggling to see a better tomorrow .
Our goals, our dreams, our future in this they lie.
I thirst
I thirst.

This poem is against racism. Many nationalities in different countries are struggling to survive because of discrimination. Through this, I was inspired to write in order to let the world know that there are people out there who need help.Â
