I Thought I...

I Thought I...

I thought I heard you whisper as the wind spoke yesterday.
A silent, gentle rush of air across my dampened cheek.
I tried to listen hard to what sweet words you tried to say
butĀ  all I heard was empty loneliness

I thought I saw your outline as I crossed the busy street.
I strained my eyes to catch a better look.
I search the face of every stranger that I chance to meet
but all I see is bitter emptiness

I thought I felt your touch upon my hands when closed in prayer
I reach to hold theĀ  hands I miss so much
I felt in vain for comfort but could find no solace there
Iā€™m lost without your voice, your self, your touch

I thought I could be strongĀ  but now I know that I am weak
You were the strength that lifted me each day
Iā€™d give the world for one more chance toĀ  listen to you speak
But like the wind your words have blown away
