I Walked You In The Morning

I walked you in the morning; I buried you that night;
The bluest of all Mondays, the one you’d lose your final fight!
You had won so many battles, and had never lost one yet;
But this night, you drew a new opponent, who was as tough as he could get!
He boasted of his prowess, and claimed you were too old;
To ever have a chance to beat him, and early you would fold!
But in the first round of your melee, you landed a punch or two;
This monster knew real quickly, his job was tough to do!
You had me in your corner, but I took a little break;
When I returned the bout was over, the final count you’d take!
I put you on a stretcher, and wrapped you in your robe;
Then carried you to rest a while, before, the stars, you’d probe!
I stayed with you all night then, remembering our great years;
Then the sun announced the morning, as I dried your body from my tears!
I thought, “this time on yesterday, I had walked you up the street”;
But now, just one day later, your Maker would you meet!

Such a beautiful yet also heartbreaking piece Larry. He is very proud of the love and care you gave him and I`m sure he reads every one of your beautiful poems that you write for him. I love you both too.
