I want to be water

I want to be water. 
I will take the shape of anything I enter. 
I will turn to vapor when I don’t want to be seen. 
I will turn to ice when I don’t want to feel. 

I want to be water. 
I will pour onto the streets washing away yesterdays wreckage. 
I will ride along with people on their way to work, 
clinging to umbrellas and raincoats. 
I will consume those who linger in the rain, 
soaking through layer by layer until my skin meets theirs. 

I want to be water. 
I will travel the world, 
meeting new people each day. 
I will be completely free. 
I will never belong to anyone. 
I have been here for millions of years, 
and I’ll be here for millions more. 
Watching the world change.
