Poem -

I WAS THERE

I WAS THERE

I was there from the start
And I was there when your life fell apart
I remember holding your hand through the withdrawals
And I remember all those late night phone calls
I cried with you
When I told you what your suicide would do
And I promised never to lie to you
I rather be honest than collide with you
But I was there
When everyone else walked away, I cared
I really loved you
I never once judged you
But I wish I could have done more
I wish I had that magic wand and found a cure Because life hasn’t be the same
Everything about my life has changed
I look to my side and you’re no longer next to me
I look at my phone and you’re no longer texting me
But I was there
When you felt your life was going wrong and nothing seemed fair
And I remember wiping tears off your face
I remember telling you to stay strong every time we embraced
And I wish I had that magic wand and found a cure
I just wish I could have done more
When I was there!

Morris Holland ...

Thank you so much. I actually wrote this poem from a story told to me while I’m out doing outreach in Kensington Philadelphia.

Being Me

Well written! You have exactly the right rhythm going on here through the words. It tells a gritty story — a different side of "love and loss" that poets often write about x
