MY PAST

MY PAST

Remember that I left my past behind me and I’m still trying to correct it
Sometimes I feel like my back is up against the wall and I’m just trying not to resurrect it
That old me, that cold me
That one who wouldn’t be shit, like they once told me
And I know what some are trying to do
They rather drape me back in blue and send me back with my crew
Not knowing that I’ll still survive
You could put me back in a cell and I’ll still change lives
But understand that when I look to the sky, I’m looking higher
Because I know that the devil is a liar
And at every turn I know that he’s there chasing me
Switching identities every time he’s facing me
And no one has to remind me as they’re trying to rewind me
That under jail cell lights you could once find me
I know where I came from
Got a name from
But until they understand my life
My trials, tribulations and and all I had to sacrifice
Then they’ll see I’m a role model because I chose to be
I’m just trying to be what I’m supposed to be
And I don’t think they understand that my past made me
And I don’t care how anyone in this world wants to portray me
So when they understand everything I’m truly fighting for
I’m sure they wouldn’t question my past anymore!

Being Me

A powerful write! We all make mistakes, it's what humans do, the important bit is learning from them. I love your poem x
