I'll Never Drink Again

I'll Never Drink Again

Happy New Year, he said

Didn't know two hours later he'd be dead

The only person that ever truly loved me

Was now gone from my life and I never felt so lonely

Sitting out on our swing, breathing in the cold air

I looked up into the sky, wishing I was up there

Heaven's got another one

Because of what some drunk driver had done

Now I'll never drink again

A drink is the reason I no longer have my best friend,

Goodbye my love, I'm so sorry this is how it ends.

A heartbreaking tale conveyed in a short space of time with a powerful message.  Well written, I agree with Stephen loved that line :

Sitting out on our swing, breathing in the cold air

I looked up into the sky, wishing I was up there

Heaven's got another one

Because of what some drunk driver had done

Great stanza!!  Congratulations on your nomination Jess! :)

Jess!  Oh, I am so sorry that you lost your best friend!  This poem really ravages the heart of the reader.  Those who drive drunk endanger us all daily.  I hope the driver in this story was or will be found and permanently prevented to drive again!

Hello Jess,

You are a wonderful, open hearted young woman of courage, with your entire life, still ahead of you,(although a valuable piece of it has been selfishly taken away, by this, misguided gun on wheels, better yet stray bullet on wheels, whom discharged his intoxicated stooper, in the direction of anywhere but unfortunately and as usual, hitting someone somewhere, (your dearest of friend),an innocent soul who knew not, the thief of his life would be, where, when are why and asked only, (that night to make it home safe), ,just as all nights before, yet he was robbed, of his innocence and safe return back home... I am, (just as all the others),extremely sorry, for the lost, of someone so close and dear to you, are to anyone else  but what sparked my praise and interest, as well as compassion most, was the fact, that you made no excuses, for what you felt you had to do for yourself, to ensure the same sad situation, wasn't yours, too have to make, nor be subjected to, by another. A sad space to have to resign yourself to, inside of your head, due to this thing, they call loneliness but in all actuality you aren't, Jess, you have an entire entourage of support and encouragement, just a fingers tap away and from all corners of this earth, in (all) the great poets on this page that sincerely offered their support and deeply felt sympathies..I know you hurt dearly and have lost a part of you, that will never be returned but you also have gained, (through your sadness and sorrows, yet strength to continue on, knowing he is up there looking down upon you and still having positive say so, in your decision making), a brand new conglomeration of people, willing to listen when and if need be..Your dream is to be a (Pharmacist) and we wish, that reality for you as well....  And that you have......(changed minds and renewed many  hearts of your viewers with your poetry), which is the same reasons we are here...So please feel free to consult us anytime and join us all the time, on this site where everybody gives of themselves and receives, when ever it may be needed....

Take Care young lady,

Jim

My heart is with you sweety and I`m so sorry that this has happened to you and the person you love. Take heart and strength by knowing that he is still with you, loving you and protecting you, just as God is doing also. We all know the pain of loss sweety and I would like to say that if you need to talk about it, I`m here for you when ever you need it. I lost my eldest son Andrew aged 31 to cancer 5 years ago today, so I really do understand your pain. This poem is simply beautiful honey, well done. Love G xx
