Illusions

Illusions

She just sat there staring off into space.
Thoughts whirling and swirling, spinning at dizzying speeds -
like a kaleidoscope
Colour bursts ceaseless in their myriad of formations.
Hues of reds and blues, shades of green, glittery gold and quicksilver;
Slipping into focus and out again in mere nanoseconds.
Her hands lay gently in her lap.
To look at her
You would think she was a picture of serenity;
Calm and peaceful, like an elegant swan
Floating majestically over the water,
Gliding effortlessly towards the bank.
Underneath, her webbed feet paddling furiously
Just to keep afloat.
Outside mirroring the inside?
Not today.
