In Freedom's Embrace

The escape escaped from him
The slave is slain
He dangles on the noose
No pity for him
No pit for him
The rebels within are forced to fear
They are rounded up to watch him
Sorrow and pain kiss in their hearts
His lifeless body sings a song
A song which missed his lips a lifetime
βFreedom finally comesβ
His bare back need not bear further strokes
His weak bones, to suffer no loads
Slavery lived when he lived
Slavery hangs as he hangs
His father was caught and cut
He knew freedom wasΒ death
Running from the field, akin to his exit
Heβs paid the price for the priceless
Freedom lifts him in the tree
The sun looks him in the face
Weak and strong voices sing his dirge
Vultures will come for him but not his freedom
He failed a victorious failure
Heβs free in the tree
From where the master looks up to see him
