The Mirror

WARNING: I do not believe any of the messages conveyed in this poem. This poem is from the point of view of a girl who hates her body. I write this poem to raise awareness of self-hatred. Everyone is beautiful and needs to remember that. I do not agree with the last stanza and believe we need to drive that thought out of our youth’s minds. God created you and loves you, and if you have thought anything in the following poem, please feel free to reach out to me in the comment section.
When I look in the mirror
What do I see
I see a horrible
Version of me
My hips too wide
My stomach too big
I hate myself
I look like pig
They say I look fine
But is it true?
And so I turn
Back to you
I look in the mirror
And cover myself
I no longer have
Concern for my health
And so I eat
Less and Less
So one day I will
Look good in this dress
It never works
I’m just the same
I know I have
Myself to blame
I want to leave
To look away
But I need it
So there I stay
I stare at the mirror
And judge myself
Because my look
Determines my wealth

Hello, Anonymous...
People who suffer from eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia nervosa never see their bodies proportionately. Although they may look perfectly fine to us, they see themselves as far too heavy. So, they purge or, in many cases, do not eat at all. And, sadly, in some cases they may even starve themselves to death.
Society has put an image "out there" via television or glamor and fashion magazines of what the "perfect person" should look like.
It's especially harder on young girls.
The fact is, our imperfections are what make us uniquely beautiful.
We are like the delicate snowflake, uniquely designed and wonderfully made.

Thank you again Mr. Dean, this is exactly the message I was trying to convey, the girl in the poem is indeed starving herself to death and sees herself as too heavy. It’s horrible that these girls see themselves this way, for I agree with you
”We are like the delicate snowflake, uniquely designed and wonderfully made.”
I like trains on a monkeys back riding a pig
