in the same boat

Mam would sit
outside on sunwarmed walls
just having
a cuppa with the girls
she'd say I'd remind her
not girls I'd say
all mothers and old
mam nearly 30!
be off now she'd scold
they'd watch as us kids
would chase round with balls
Invading the gardens
climbing the walls
nobody minded
we were family see
Mams in the same boat
with fags lit and tea
a boat in our close
I never did see
and when we went in
we were still family
even with dad gone
M
