An Inch

An Inch

In the wreckage of nobody,
A hollow chest heaves,
Unbearable existence,
Swept away like dry leaves.

Just a breath away,
A second of the hand,
Below the curve of a jaw,
Lies a distant land.

A centimeter, an inch,
A measurement of life,
Freedom from suffering,
From the yoke of a vice.

A slaughtered soul,
To burn on a pyre,
An offering to God,
To heaven through fire.
