Inside & Out

He smelled of ashes and cigarettes, 
But on the inside all he felt were regrets.

She smelled of vanilla and flowers, 
But on the inside she only had hours.

On the outside he looked like he was tied to a wire and his eyes were filled with fire.

On the outside she looked like a doll and every day she would go to the mall, 
But all she wanted to do was fall.

Everyone thought that his heart was stone-cold,
But really his heart was made of gold.

Everyone gave her hope,
But she felt as if she was hanging from a tightrope.

He loved her,
But all he did was dope.

And she loved him,
But she was struggling to cope.

And one night he went to give her a clover 
But her time was already over. 
He clutched her to his body,
And all she wanted was to feel like somebody. 

He hovered over her casket, and placed the clover on her heart, 
And all he wanted to do was go back to the start. 
Instead he has to look at her on a shelf, 

And now the story ends with a boy who loved a girl who could never ever love herself.
