Poem -

Intimacy

Betwixt the covers do we lie
Truths masked to match our own
My pain reflected in your eyes
Each other’s thoughts our own

The silence remains, unbroken
Would that our hearts were too
Apologies are left unspoken
The forgiveness is too

Laughter to ease the pain,
Smiles to hide the scars,
Lust the only thing unfeigned
Naked; no evidence of scars

Bare except our armor
As strong as we are frail
Approval we secretly garner
Holding gently, both of us frail

Hesitant to let anyone so close
Ever vigilant, never knowing
Subtly, nothing grandiose
Armor pierced, without knowing

Tension rises as defenses lower
Tentatively, you let me in
Angst apparent, we go slower
Finally, I let you in
