My ancestors sail from far
And its there that I was born
They came from India
Across the rough oceans
to work in the cane fields
And the plantations
Bringing their curry and spicesÂ
And Indian recipes to cookÂ
Play their drum and dhantal
Singing and dancing after work
Cooking roti on a tawa
Dhal, rice and kuchela
Curry baigan and aloo
Bara and channa with pepper
today Trinidad has come very far
Together we aspire, together we achieve"
