It Might’ve Been

It Might’ve Been

Today started and went again
Yesterday the same happened, and I feel as though tomorrow has already been
If I could see, I’d know enough to be afraid, but what darkness can be seen, when it never stays away
I miss the former days when I used to call your name, but if I were to try it now, would it even sound the same
Sometimes I think I can hear your voice on the wind
Almost like a familiar place that I’ve never been
My soul moves in distance with a longing cry, but what’s to say with reason when there’s none to see the try
Is this the fear I’ve waited, the reason why I run
What does it help
It has already been done
Beckoned and called, lured away with an unfailing love, but when the darkness came, it revealed there was none
Thought the seasons were changing
The leaves fell and grew once more, the snow came and then it was warm
The spring danced and gave life, but I fear all I know is this strife
Still an absence I was longing to fill, but where could I begin so I remain until
If days run this short and the darkness wins
Could we really claim that it was for love
Then for hate or war
For what other reason would you choose to draw a sword
If it’s not for love……..then what is this on the wind
The only thing I hear,
”It might’ve been”
