Wave After Wave

Headed out in a stormy sea,
The only thing I can hear
“Trust me”
So I grab his hand and walk among the waves suddenly I lose my gaze and notice the height of the waves.
“How can I walk on those?”
Your voice becomes faint.
In the midst of a storm I’m now going under, when the first wave hits, “Is this my life?” I wonder
When it passes I gasp for air, but I can already see the second waves form in the midsts of the air.
I am so small. How shall I survive?Â
What keeps me from standing, my fear or my pride?
The second wave hits and I think this is it.
I disappear beneath the surface.
Suddenly I feel a pull on my arms and I’m pulled through the water that surrounds me.
I see his face and gentle eyes he speaks to me and says, “Chi, if you would only listen to my voice you will never have to be here again.”
I believe him.Â
He took my hand and began to walk along the water.
The storm seems to have been calmed.
I guess the trick is to stay focused on his gaze and if you do go under, the higher the waves the greater the grace.Â
