Jack Frost Came Calling

While I slept "Jack Frost came calling"
Though he knocked not on my door
Instead he left his calling card
On my windows and my floor
The ashes in my fireplace were cold and very gray
So in my bed that morning is where I wanted to stay.
Common sense was telling me to get a fire started,
So no sooner than you could say Jack Frost,
The bed and I had parted.
As the room began to get warmer
I rolled up the window shade
And there before my astonished eyes
Was the masterpiece Jack Frost had made!
While I stood there admiring the scene
I lost the chill I had felt,
But the masterpiece on the windowpane
Was slowly starting to melt.
Yes! Jack Frost came calling
And I had turned him away
But winter isn't over yet, he'll be back again one day.
