‘Jill could try harder’?

‘Jill could try harder’?

Sat here thinking about my childhood school days
I can almost hear the bell ringing  after our break plays
Eeh I wish I’d given it all more thought
Knuckled in abit harder & learned what I was taught

Alas it said on Jill’s school report:
Jill lacks attention span but gives good effort in sport
Well I wasn’t bottom of my class
Kinda above mediocre
Trouble with me I was abit of a joker

Now that’s all very well having lots of fun
But it doesn’t give you 
qualifications
When all is said & done
So I soldiered thru
not really caring very much
Now I regret my attitude then as such

I know I should have worked harder
I think I could have been a star
Well I wouldn’t have been the best
But I could have put it to the test
My school days passed all too soon
Oh how I wish I hadn’t acted like such a buffoon?
