JUST A PAST LOVE

JUST A PAST LOVE

Stretched in so many waysΒ
My skin burns from the strain
Holding on to someone already gone
Desperation is ugly in the end

Air sucked from the room
The echoes of empty
Feelings of falling
Without stopping

Her life begins without me
I’m someone that didn’t last
A shadow seldom thought of
I become her past

I become the smoke of the gun
Quickly dissipatedΒ
Ripples in the pond
Rapidly diminished

Old what’s his name
You know the guy she dated
Back in the summer of β€˜02
Didn’t they talk of forever?

I just realized!
I’m not real!
I was a figment
Of her imaginationΒ

No substance
No validity
Only what she imagined
A filler of spaceΒ

Now unneeded
Useless
Old hatΒ
Yesterday’s news

I lost color
Everything is black and white
I find myself waiting on the past
As if it’ll come again

No second chances
No β€œone more times”
No name no face
I fade into nothingness

Gone

Was that a sigh?
Did you whisper?
Perhaps a prayer
Through parched lips
