Just A Pebble

Just A Pebble

Just a pebble
Not just a pebble
Like any other pebble
But a red Hebble
Bus-coloured pebble
That reminds me
Of my childhood best friend
Whose dad drove a bus
For the Hebble Bus
Company

Some would say
He was a rebel
Not a smooth pebble
By any means
More a loose pebble
Some would say
A loose cannon
Like his hero
John Lennon

To be honest
He wasn’t really
Very bad at all
A Sixties teenager
He thought like most lads thought
He spoke like most lads spoke
And did like most lads did

He was our leader
The life and soul of the party
Whether stripped to the waist
As “The Muscle Man” on stage
Or doing a thirty-mile walk
For charity.
