just a thought

everything ends
hold no pretense
the plans we made,
one day will fade;
like May flies and holiday parades
idealism forged out of birthdays
hold no 'real' shelter from pain
or even from the falling rain;
there is no comfort in the arms of idealism
with any luck, wisdom may be gained
gilded somewhere in the middle;
just don’t be coy, selfish or greedy
give away that handful of gold;
don't hold that currency;
keep your hands empty
your words pure, humble--
when you get old one day
paradise may bid you; follow
grace rewards the broken, they say

hey, sis, great comment and 'like' and 'stars?' thank you also Jason for the 'stars' and 'likes' lol, I see faces with the 'stars' yeah! this is new....time to check on my old stuff to see who the mysterious 'starman' is who gave me 1 star on a poem back in the day, lol....cheers sis, thanks again
Hi Christopher, I really enjoyed this, I think that as we lose people from our lives we begin to think more about our own mortality. This poem really captures that beautifully. We cant take material things with us when we go, but leading a rich rewarding life with the people who we love is leaving something of a legacy
Really enjoyed
