JUSTIFIED

JUSTIFIED

KNEELING OVER HIS BLOOD STAINED BODY
SHE BREATHE A SIGH OF RELIEF,
ALL THE ANGER THAT WAS BUILT UP
OVER THE YEARS IN HER MIND,
ESCAPING IN THE TOXIC AIR.

SHE HAD COME TO THE RIVERS EDGE,
THERE WERE NO WHERE ELSE TO GO,
SHE SNAPPED, LOOSING CONTROL,
REALITY HAD SLIPPED AWAY,
FORGED BY THE MANY LIES AND UNFAITHFULNESS
SHE HAD EXPERIENCED OVER THE YEARS.

HE HAD BROUGHT HER FLOWERS
AS HE OFTEN DO, AFTER HIS CASUAL AFFAIRS,
AS SHE WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR,
REACHING INTO HER HANDBAG,
SHE GRABBED THE DAGGER SHE HAD BOUGHT.

AS HE PRESENTED HER THE DOZEN YELLOW ROSES,
SHE PLUNGED THE DAGGER INTO HIS STOMACH,
THE HANDLE SAYING GOODBYE TO HER EYES.

FALLING TO HIS KNEES, WITH HIS LAST BREATH,
HE ASKED.. WHY?
SHE WHISPERED, JUSTIFIED!
AS HIS BLOOD STAINED THE CASHMERE SWEATER
SHE HAD BOUGHT HIM
FOR THEIR FIFTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
JUST THREE DAY AGO.

WILFORD BARKER.
