Knock, Knock

Knock, Knock

Hidden in darkness near bedroom wall
Closet door opens, shadow hushed crawl
Sudden thump under chilly bed
Scents of brimstone permeate my head

I dread to look what lies beneath
Imagining sounds of gnashing teeth
Ever so quiet scratching begins
Praying forgiveness of all my sins

Quicksilver moon offers eerie glow
Stifling whimpers so evil doesn’t know
Nightlight flickers and departs
Drumming in my chest jumpstarts

Could it be neurosis in blissful sleep
As moonbeams willfully creep
Could it be onions I ate before bed
Heartburn tis effects of dread

I’ve heard monster are drawn to rank smells
Stealing ones breath in moment of quells
Only rumors as knock on closet door
Franticly roaches begin to pour.
