The Lament of Adam-Man

The Lament Of Adam - Man
It came to pass on this fair Earth
Born the first upon the land
He was strong, straight and tall
And his name was Adam-Man
As he saw this land of beauty
He rejoiced in his thanksgiving
for it was a world of wonder
And the Earth gave him - her blessing
His mate stood proudly by him
Their love would always bind
And the road they chose to travel
Became both steep and hard to climb
Together they traveled onwards
Where they came upon a god
And liking what they saw
They both knelt upon the sod
He proclaimed he'd seen the light
To his family kith and kin
To this god they must convert
To be cleansed from all their sin
A brother kinsman found a god
To this god he gave his life
His tribe took another road
Which he raveled with his wife
The Earth was good to all of them
Her bounties she bestowed
Adam-Man lived off the land
And the food and nectar flowed
.
.
Adam-Man the Maker
His Powers are unique
Adam-Man the Builder
Approbation at his feet
His literature became superb
His verse almost sublime
The music came from angels
The artwork quite divine
Religions grew and blossomed
Their pathways sometimes met
When they would go to war
While death their blood would let
The tribes grew much larger
They spread throughout the world
Their armies brave and true
And the banners were unfurled
The tribes went on to flourish
Into Nations strong and proud
But Adam-Man had sold his soul
For the Devil's voice is loud
As the years came and went
The kinsmen of Adam-Man
Became the Kings of all the world
And held a fortune in their hand
Great Empires rose and Empires fell
Kings were crowned and Kings dethroned
And still my Adam-Man
For his sins would not atone
He conquered the highest mountains
His brave explorers stood the test
He sailed the mighty oceans
In search of a golden quest
Came the advent of invention
Across the seas new pastures beckoned
Above the clouds in the bright blue sky
Adam-Man learn t how to fly
Civil Wars were fought with vengeance
Avarice had won the toss
And He who died at Calvary
Cried out upon the Cross
His arrogance knew no bounds
He would fight for this, his land
"This war will be the 'The Great War'"
Adam declared with pride
"It shall be the greatest war
For which you will ever die
The trumpets sounded and the bugles blared
And my Adam-Man went off to war
He marched along to the fife and the drum
And into the Dragon's lair
Death and Destruction took their toll
On a scale unknown before
Inhuman deeds by friend and foe
The seeds for slaughter had been sown
At Passchendale there were the dead
The Somme lay drenched in blood
At Mons they died in thousands
And Flanders poppies grew in mud
If you had only seen that day
When the battles had been won
At Gallipoli and Dardanelle’s
Their bodies rotted in the sun
In mud filled trenches they sadly lay
Slain by bullets, bombs and gas
Thro' Deaths grim Portals at the end
Nine million would pass
.
The war was unforgiving
Recriminations passed to and fro
While Victor strutted proudly
The Vanquished lost his soul
In the quiet years that followed
An uneasy peace prevailed
Between the Nations who took the wealth
And the ones who had failed
From the Earth he stole her treasures
Minerals, diamonds, furs and gold
He built his factories tall and wide
And the trees he felled and sold
Eve grew quite impatient
For her share of this wealth
A taste of the rich, good life
And everlasting health
Adam-Man then split the Atom
While the Earth just held her breathe
For now he could destroy her
This world would be bereft
The Second War came into being
(Or an extension of the First)
While a strutting, Teutonic little man
Would become the Anti-Christ
The Holocaust had become the curse
The ovens burnt both fierce and bright
Genocide the bells rang out
The chimneys smoked all day and night
Six times as many now would die
The stench of death and flesh corrupted
Machines killed, bombed and maimed
The whole wide world had now erupted
Great cities were torn asunder
Warsaw, Dresden, London, Rome
He broke his pact with the great god Thor
And Adam became a Lord of War
Dunkirk, Stalingrad and Trobruk
New battle names for the history book
War in the air, on sea and shore
Then Armageddon knocked at the door
Adam unleashed the Weapon of Doom
Radiation sickly guards its tomb
Two cities fell to the Devil's Mark
The warnings are both cold and stark
Now my brave and fearless Adam-Man
Ascended to the moon
He said "A giant leap for mankind"
(But paradise is here he'll find)
He extolled the Seven Wonders
As he raveled far and wide
The Great Pyramids amazed him
Etched against the sky
Adam-Man the hunter scourged
The wild beast of the land
His cage and gun spread o'er the jungles
And across the desert sands
He desecrated rain forests
And dug the deepest mines
(Now he'd try to mend the ozone layer
If he only had the time)
In his constant search for happiness
Came fame and famine side by side
My Adam-Man must look to himself
For his world will surely die
Pollution shrouds this world
Extinction is her bane
Adam-Man sings his lament
To a world of grief and pain
He bows his head in feverant prayer
For the granting of a favor
Greater hope he has not, than
The second coming of a Savior
Now the Earth is old and weary
For her time she will abide
But Adam-Man's great family
Think God is on their side
