Life Anew
On the day we meet.
Life was but a mess.
Although no regret.
My life to become a bless.
You turned me around.
Gave me a place to land.
On solid ground.
With a helping hand.
I opened my hearts door.
And began to feel the joy.
With each day awaiting more.
The conversation a ploy.
For our time has mended.
These scars of mine.
Where life had intended.
The two of us to twine.
For the long while.
You are to stay.
Now with a smile.
Looking out along the way.
Before you I had recessed.
And began to wither.
But with an innocent jest.
Onward and upward I would thither.
Separated. Decades apart.
You listened to the words.
Of my enclosed heart.
Amongst the herds.
With your teen years yet to come.
And a heart so bold.
You make we weak and numb.
And shelter me from the cold.
You are my daughter.
From my past untold.
A marine across the water.
So young and bold.
My name your mother did not know.
A night out on the town.
Over a decade ago.
Innocent and weak she never backed down.
I now look at life not with a frown.
Counting each day.
Till we visit in a small town.
Hoping then not to go a Separate way.
