Life In The Fast Lane

Life In The Fast Lane

Lewis and I gambled at the casino in Monaco,
he usually won while I remained the gigolo,
too busy for Nicole in these lockdown days,
we spoke about his life in the karting days.

He mentioned Jim Clark who crashed into a tree,
a hundred and seventy mph was too much for me,
once he was out driving in the Scottish glens,
nearly lost it at ninety mph going round the bends.

They had a national holiday when Ayrton died,
maybe not the same for me or my spiritual guide,
Peter Revson lost his head to a fire extinguisher,
not the way to complete life's final answer.

Lewis said that it was nearly time to practice again,
now the stupid virus was going, in the wind and rain.
