Lifted

Darkened skies turn bright
breaking with morning's light
Songbirds awaken as well
hearing them call from my cell
Though for a year I have not seen
the land of which I'm truly keen
I have faith paradiseĀ still exists
against doubt my soul resists

When the rains come and thunder breaks
the bars of my iron cage shakes
Comfort finds me instead of fear
the power of my God is here
These concrete walls stand no chance
against His fiery lightning's lance
Winds of torrents have broken more
than what this prison's built for

Resting am I this and every day
because of my peace when I pray
Though the shackles rub me raw
Paul himself freedom saw
Am I to be any less than blessed
in enduring this mortal test
My knees and tears hit the concrete
yet the Lord lifts me to my feet
