Poem -

light

you want me to describe him as if he were the sun

if i did, he would be a solar eclipse.

hes darkness, he may be ringed by light,

but that light makes you go blind, i can't look at him.

please let me look at him

i will gladly go blind to look at him

but, no, he can't be the sun

because the sun sets

the solar eclipse only comes around every so often.

and fire, fire turns to embers, so he is not fire either.

he is the light itself.

light does not warm like fire, but nor does it flicker.

if there is one constant, it is light. light refuses to go away, he refuses to go away.

you blow out your candle but still the moonlight seeps through your window

your eyelids close.

but what is such thin skin to his brilliance? my eyelids aren't enough

how can i be enough? how, how, why won't he tell me how?

can sleep truly stop such radiance?

can sleep even come when you are bathed in such divinity as is that light?

you laugh, self-depreciating. who are you to talk about divinity?

the light from the moon is dim, but even then, he is brutal

you are not sure if you are wishing for more of him or for him to disappear completely

hes terrible, terrible, why must i orbit around him?

you are surrounded by remainders of a man who is barley a man.

no.

he smiles, and its a bit crooked. that is a mortal smile. you curse your human heart for fluttering.

your hands fall from where they were clasped together

do not worship him, i refuse to let myself worship him, not again. he is no good.

oh yes, he is still light.

but light breathes, light laughs, light is loving

maybe the light is warmer than you first thought.
