Lightning

Lightning

If I only knew how to reach you
I would tell you now that none of it matters
I would say I forgive you for everything
and picked up the pieces of my heart that you shattered

I'd trail my fingers across your lips
And run my fingers through your hair
Because I can see what's in your mind...
How hard it must be to live in there

That's not a chip you are carrying
It's a thick ten foot wall
And each time I've tried to climb it
I've done nothing but fall

I don't know who hurt you
But your thunderous anger is frightening
It's a shame too...
We could have lit the sky with our lightning

So I'm protecting my heart
Lest you crush it again
But at a distance, still, I will love you
I'll always love you, my friend.
