Poem -

Linger

Happy days
are but a scream away
if I could let it all go
and give into a better way
made to last and never fade away

Maybe be a slave to the sunshine
(for a while)
and I think I'll be fine
and smile
when this day is done

Give a sigh for simplicity
a toast to not-a-care-in-the-world,
in this moment,
and just let it linger in my mind

Move on, will you?
No more dwelling on war wounds
that linger in my soul
Fill that hole with hope, strength
and love

You look at me
wondering
how many kisses linger on my lips
and I promise you this
The only things that linger there
are the unanswered prayers
that I can face tomorrowΒ
as I have today
