If a poet is to acknowledge

his debt

and sincerity in those they love

than I have loved you

requited from

the educated endorsements

for the simplicity

will attest

how I have loved you.

If as poet’s major poverty

is paying the rent

and wandering about in mind

that the potential

for homelessness is near.

Beyond loving you

fighting the dragons

and the beasts of the World

who want to rape

and pillage what I have written

must be defended by love.

Heartless for God

and heartless for mankind

they twain

with the rust imparts of iron

whose decades

need not a brutal editor

but compassion.

Ungodly hours of traffic

make a metropolis

but what makes a poet

is understanding the sinister

like pepper

on a salad of preparation.

Emphatically we test ourselves to prove

that the design of poetry improves

the wave making necessary

to justify a World that is slowly dying inside.

To the ogre of literary science

I leave you my pen.
