Little Things

its the little things in life,

thats true, 

im still alive, 

who knew--

but for how long?

how long can things keep 

declining?

things will be horrible 

with a little sprinkle of okay

and then horrible again

and maybe im alive simply

to renew my faith in the okay 

in the good--

or maybe my morbid curiosity

to see my ultimate demise

is what keeps me going.

yes, yes

its the little things

a macys sale--

a four car pileup next door--

a light spring rain--

influenza is back like a raging bull--

a ten dollar bill found--

a job lost,

ten jobs lost, 

a whole company collapses

there is such sorrow

and chaos everywhere 

that one cannot simply wonder 

how the little things 

are supposed to keep us complacent 

anymore.
