Poem -

Little Time To Stand And Stare

Washing up
Washing clothes
Mending things
When they break or go

Dust and clean
Sometimes shop
Clean the floors:
Using a mop

Be switched on.
Be aware
There’s little time
To stand and stare

Cook the tea,
Don’t eat out
And once a week
Put rubbish out.

Cook a meal for friends
Make a good impression
Don’t criticize.
Use self- expression

Daily:  Check emails:
Answer.  Delete.
Open the post
Keep oneself neat.

Use initiative
To get things done:
Don’t be a disappointment
As a son.

Practice hard:
Self- discipline.
Don’t spend too much.
Spend most nights in.

Exposed suddenly to this;
Left half- alone
Prompted in me
A psychotic episode.

On and on
I wonder why:
If others can cope
Then why not I?

I know that living
Is much the same for others:
Harder though for
Fathers, mothers.

Yet still I can’t grasp reality.
Pathetic but
It’s too much for me.

I’m institutionalised.
