Love That Kills

I miss the way my heart could love
For the ones I waited for
But ripped my heart from flesh and bone
This soul may love no more
Who gave them right
To build that light that brightens
Our darkest days
That paints the world in such a glow
The beauty comes in rays
They come they see they conquer
And they leave our hearts a mess
So you can see why love and me
Are strangers nonetheless
This is why I'm lonely
Nay I wish to be alone
For what is love but hurt and heal
(And us outcasts)
We're better on our own

I absolutely related to this eloquent poem. I felt the pain, the angst of remembering lost love, and the inner sadness of not being able to love, the inner struggle to accept this. I`ve never read a poem that gave this kind of pain, justice. You did, and you did it so exquisitely! I thank you!
