Poem -

Love, we were young once

Love, we were young once

Love, we were young once and ran races
dancing in a stream of eels
eternal were the nights, happy were the faces

Poor though I was, humble be our basis
who thought a high nellie would appeal
love, we were young once and ran races

How our laughter filled the empty spaces
as we travelled to the dance in Murphy's field
eternal were the nights, happy were the faces

With each step you put me through my paces
as I caressed your crimson lips between the reels
love, we were young once and ran races

Hook head, to summer breeze I tied your laces
if only to seal our sacred deal
eternal were the nights, happy were the faces

Memory now lies in wooden cases
yet strong within the haze such love I feel
love, we were young once and ran races
eternal were the nights, happy were the faces.
