Love's Stride

Lamp posts flicker in the night;
taunting me, laughing – denying me light.
Unpaved is the street;
creating an uneven rhythm beneath my feet.

Wind begins to howl;
from the belly of the forest echoes a scowl.
Noises unfamiliar to me;
still, I know there is somewhere I need to be.

Dawn, slowly is born;
promise of a new day is sworn.
Fatigue is settling in;
but I am determined to win.

Hastening my stride;
my emotions, like a storm, begin to collide.
Overwhelmed by the nearness of you;
feeling proud of all we’ve been through.

A smile slowly creeps into my face;
I can already feel your passionate embrace.
My eyes begin to leak;
tears, stain my cheeks.

Like the rarest of gems on display;
glistening, just a few feet away.
Our gazes meet, as they have so many times before;
daring to discover and explore.

Two souls, destined to become one;
Linger in love’s kiss under the warmth of the sun!
