Make-up

I used to watch Mommy,
as she put on her makeup.
She covered it,
she covered everything you did.

Did what ever you asked,
playing her part well,
to keep you satisfied.

Sometimes I sit here,
and wonder if I to,
have to plaster my face with makeup,
to cover up the bruises and scars
to cover up Mommy's shame.
Just to keep you appeased.

and I'd do anything
to keep your words from stabbing me,
because your tongue was like a thousand knifes
and your fists were hammers,
as IĀ helplessly watched you break her,
into pieces.

I used to watch Mommy,
as she put on her makeup.
She covered it.
She covered everything you did.
Then it started.....

All over again
