Man's Best Friend

Man's Best Friend
'Man's best friend' is what they say
And should you take the time to play
Just half an hour here and there
You'll come to know and truly care
For when in trouble, here they come
No doubt or questions as with some
The lessons we can learn are great
At times more than a human mate
A constant source of peace and joy
Which no man ever could destroy
And yet, of course, the day arrives
When nature moves and changes lives
And when those with the shorter time
Who never wanted pound or dime
Move on from here, they just leave tales
Of loving warmth that never fails
So treat with care these hairy friends
We know that no life truly ends
And in our thoughts we're grateful here
For in our hearts they're always dear
In memory of Linda's dog, December 2013
