Market Day

Β A bustling Friday market
The busiest day of the week,
I set off from Crumpets CafΓ©
Through the stalls, toward Haydock street
Β -
Standing proudly behind his truckles
With his cheese wire tight between his knuckles
If youβre spoiled for choice, you can try a few
As he cuts a slice with his hands so blue
Β -
Now the pie stalls you see, there are quite a few
With blackcurrant tarts and custards too,
I have to ignore them and carry on straight
If I just stop and stare, Iβll put on weight!
Β -
I saw Haddock, hake salmon and crab
As a pensioner considered Fishmongerβs slab,
βMoney doesnβt go far,β grumbled the old man
As the queue got longer at the side of the van
Β -
Now the butchers auction, draws quite the crowd
As he shouts out his deals, to all around
A tray of steak, some sausages and ham
If I could just squeeze past these bloody prams!
Β -
Chances are Iβll see someone I know
No matter what time I go,
Itβs nice to catch up, every now and then
Because you never know if you will see them again
Β -
Now before I leave the Market square
I look over my shoulder, sheβs still standing there,
To us locals, sheβs known as the Millie stone
And she watches over this old town we call home.

Lovely write, for me it's Doncaster Fish Market, I can never go down to the old Corn Exchange without buying a plate of mussels.. Just because my dad used to call with me as a kid, he used to eat whelks . And I was brave enuff to eat one too.. Xx
Thank you Pauline,Β the poem is a bit colqual, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Our Dear John,
Saturday mornings were our day down in Florida.Β We took our dear Nico and Cody with us, and they would visit with other doggies, while we went from booth to booth, filling our earth bags with goodies.
Oh how we miss those days.
Your beautiful portrayal has brought back to us, such dear memories.
Love,
Linda and Larry xxx
Thank you LarryΒ
