Poem -

Mary

There she was,
carved
in feint relief
for all the world
to see ..
Held fast tween
grey space
and golden rays ..
Those that
yet survived
to shine
through broken
stained glass
window shards ..
And smiled
upon the alter,
aisle and down
among
the gathered
congregation ..
There were
of course those
among them,
who swore that
it was Mary ..
And one or two
even left
an extra penny
in the collection box ..
