Mask Piece

Mask Piece

In her eyes

I see a world of gray

It almost makes me pity

to see her that way

The eyes, though,

can change with a glance

Next thing you know,

They could be doing a fiery

dance

And no one else

Could see through her

beautiful mask piece

No one else I knew

Was someone like me

Hiding behind a shield

Without someone to peel

the entire facade away

It makes my mind reel

Of who else was out there

Waiting for help

Trying to bear

All their blistering welts

Of the lashes of responsibility

And of addiction at it’s edge

Who else out there

Like her,

Was wanting to be dead?
